Our Process
We are a St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Team. Sophie has the ability to sense when a human is in emotional distress (most animals do, but some are better at their response) Sophie aids me in building rapport with clients and putting them at ease so that they are better able to open up about their situation. I offer to work with clients in their home, and if possible I take clients out for a walk/play with Sophie where they can relax and more comfortably open up than they sometimes can in the traditional office setting.
Meet Sophie
Sophie is a 7 year old Curly Coated Retriever. She is calm, loving and extremely sensitive to human emotions. Sophie and I worked in a group home with teenage boys for 4 years. She is one of the featured pets in the book "Workin' like a dog Doin' nuthin' like a cat - Canadian pets who go to the office" by Nancy Wilcox. Sophie and I have been a St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog Team since October 2018 and have been visiting the clients of the Day Away program through Home & Community Support Services, and the Village retirement place residents. The residents look forward to spending time with the "Curly Girl"
